Back in bed

Sophie chillin’ in her human bed.

Ah, the life of a cat, being able to use your humans as a mattress/blanket/heating pad.

Can I go back to bed? Please? Or have another few days off? I had a nice holiday, and spent lots of time with family, but now I need a day to catch up on everything else…like cleaning and laundry, and a side project that came in. Thankfully I’ve got some PTO banked and I plan to take a couple Fridays off.

Now…to be productive! Wish me luck! And I hope you have a productive, happy week too. 🙂

Thankful Thursday

I am so thankful today. I feel really good and I wish I could have this feeling every day.

Sophiekitty in the window

I want to be calm like this and remember there is a lot of good in my life.

It’s funny, earlier this week there was a LOT of drama surrounding a family portrait. As one of seven kids, I come from a big immediate family. This picture was supposed to include grandkids and one great-grandkid, as well. I say “supposed to” because it’s now up in the air because of, how do I say this dellicately, “differing” priorities. Yay, family!

Needless to say, it was a little stressful. But today I feel great. I think how I ran 10 miles the other night–and I was able to converse throughout the whole thing. I don’t think I’ve ever run 10 miles and I’ve certainly not been able to converse through the whole stretch.

Next week I’ll be on my way to New Hampshire, to run my first ever half marathon. I’m excited, a little nervous, but mostly excited. I’ve wanted to go to New England for decades and I’ve wanted to run a half marathon for at least 10 years. Now I’m doing both, whee!

The kitties are happy and Sammi has accepted them really well, too. Life is good. I want to remember this, when there is a lot of family drama, I want to be able to focus on the good things in my life.

So that’s that. And OMG I ran 10 miles! I’m going to be running 13.1 miles in 10 days from now!! Ahh!

Very thankful for moments like this, when I can look over and see my little Sophie surveying her linoleum kitchen kingdom. 🙂

In other news, and mostly for my own notes, I saw my doctor and surprise! My thyroid is off–by quite a bit. My guess is moving and having a crazy summer (and admittedly being a little less than compliant with taking the med) did it. I have follow-up labs in three months and I expect those to be a lot better. My goal is in to be back to my normal dose in six months or so. Here’s hoping!

August mind-dump

Well here we are, another month has gone by and I haven’t really blogged. Lately I’ve felt more and more antsy, like, “Whoa, time is going by too quickly” combined with “Whoa, I am too busy!” And it’s not like I’m doing really exciting stuff, it’s just random things.

What have I been doing?

  • Well, I moved for one. I need to blog about that in more depth. People nicely warned me that it could take a while to get settled and I shouldn’t beat myself up if I wasn’t able to get everything sorted and organized in a month or two. I brushed off their words. Hahaha. I’m entering month four and I am still finding stuff to sort. Mind you, a lot has been done but there’s still a ways to go.
  • I bought a car! I REALLY researched this, asked people’s opinions, researched some more, and then took the plunge. It’s not fun going from having zero car payment to having a car payment, but it was time. My car was 16 years old so with any luck this will last just as long. Thankfully I got a very fair deal, and while I had to adjust the budget a bit (which I had been planning for), it’s a comfortable adjustment. More than anything else, I feel safe in my car and that’s definitely worth it.
  • I’ve been working a lot, doing some freelance. (See “car payment,” above, haha.)
  • I’ve been training for a half marathon. I’m definitely in the “one and done” category. I like running, but I think after this I’ll stick to 5 and 10Ks.It’s been a little hard to get going a lot of days because I feel kind of tired and sluggish. Not depressed, not sad, just sluggish and foggy. I wonder if my thyroid is off, or if it’s just that I’ve had a lot of big things going on. I love where I live now, but the other day I missed my apartment for a minute. It was smaller, I had a lot of stores in walking distance (great for errands!), etc. Maybe I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed about stuff.

On a happy note, I decided to treat myself to a knitting pattern and some yarn I’ve admired for *at least* a year, probably two. I can’t wait to start it! Knitting helps me focus, chill out, and sit still.

Another happy thing? The other night I had the house to myself so I cleaned up a bit, did some laundry, organized some stuff, watched my beloved QVC (window shopping is fun!), and while on the couch Miss Sophie jumped up near my head. 🙂

    Sophie the Stealthy.

Then Sammi, our puppy, started barking that she wanted to get up.

    They are quite the pair.

I really need to blog about them. They are getting along great. I was so worried about that when I moved in. It’s working out really well, though. Grizzy and Sophie still romp around and hang with each other, but Sophie seems to find some comfort with Sammi, too. That is, G can be very much the rowdy mancat, so it seems like when Sophie wants to have some quiet time, she hangs out with Sammi. They are the ones who let me know when it’s bedtime and they both sleep on the bed. G seems to enjoy his solitude in the basement (in the “man cave,” of all places) or on his living room chair where he can look out the window.

Whew, if you made it all the way through that, congrats and thank you. Also, Do you have any tips for organizing your time or getting more organized overall? My issue is feeling overwhelmed and scattered. I’m doing small things, like cutting out caffeine, waking up 10 minutes ealier each week so I have more time, etc., but this is something that always seems to be my Achilles’ heel and I’d like to change it once and for all. Thank you!

    Have a lovely week!

(Not quite) Wordless Wednesday

I was on the couch the other day and looked over and promptly cracked up. Then I got my phone. 🙂

Can you see it?

Sophie feet!

Oh, my little sweetheart. I assure you, she spends most of her waking (or snoozing-but-still-awake-enough) hours in plain sight.

Still here…

::waves::

I actually thought it had been longer since I last posted. Since then, I’ve moved, traveled out of state, and have been up to my ears unpacking and organizing.

One very sweet thing that is different at the new place is that Sophie sleeps with me just about every night! Usually it’s around 1 am or so–I must move and she mews and I call her and up she jumps. I lift up the covers, she burrows underneath and starts purring away. (This is generally the only times she purrs.)

This morning she mewed around 5:30 so I slept in a little longer so be with her. I just love that little cookie.

I hope to start updating here more regularly once more boxes are unpacked. My goal is to have things pretty darn set up by the end of the month. Knock on wood!

Sophie is 4!

I was remiss in not putting up a celebratory post for my little Sophie this past Saturday. My lovely little floofy furbaby is now four years old! I remember when I first got her. She was light as a feather and lightning fast. Loved zipping around everywhere. Now she loves waking me up with her gentle “Get up, Momma, get up!” purr-chirps.

Her favorite toy is still the Go-Cat “Da Mouse.” She loves to sit out in the hallway. She isn’t a lap cat, but when I sit she for a while she’ll slowly make her way over to me, jump up, and carefully lay right next to me. One of my favorite things is how she burrows under the blankets, snuggles up to me, and starts purring and sleeping early in the morning. As soon as I get to bed, she is the first cat up there, getting comfy against my legs. I love that little girl so much.

Happy birthday, sweet Sophie! ❤ 🙂

Sophie snoozes…and stretches

Weekend, weekend…wow the time is flying by. I know I’m always saying this but I think things will slow a bit next week. A lot of the busy-ness is due to work. It’s a busy time of year and we’ve had some staff changes. I get home and I’m ready to just sit!

This weekend I went to a bootcamp/crossfit-type class. I’m still having a hard time walking, haha. I liked that it went by so quickly. I’ve been looking to kickstart a fitness routine (well, a different one than running) so I treated myself to a 6-week unlimited trial membership for $45. I hope at the next class I won’t be quite so sore.

The rest of the weekend I baked cookies with my nieces. That was nice. Sunday I cleaned up around the house and cleaned. All that to say…I didn’t do a whole lot. On one hand I feel really lazy; on the other hand, I think it was good because my cold is still hanging on. I need to remember it’s OK to rest; it’s necessary, in fact.

What’s nice is looking over and seeing one or both of the cats chilling out with me. (They certainly know rest is important!) Last night Sophie was above my head on the couch. I thought it was so cute how she grabbed onto the blanket. 🙂

So comfy.

Look at that precious face:

I just melt when I see this little face.

I also love kitty feet. I was tickled when she stretched halfway through the picture taking.

I hope you all had a nice weekend. Here’s to a productive week – including some rest. 🙂

Sophie on Sunday

Sophie kitty in the sun

Sophie loves sunning.

I think the cats really enjoy our early Sunday mornings. 🙂 As much as I would love to sleep late, they keep me on a schedule, which isn’t so bad. Early to rise means I get a lot done (in theory, haha). Early to rise means they get their run-around time and then crash out while I think “Well, as long as I’m up…”.

Today I am sick, though, ugh. I had an inkling it coming on and today last night it hit hard. I’m feeling a bit better now that I’m moving around, so fingers crossed that the ick is on its way out. Maybe I can get rid of this stack of “sort-through” papers.

In other news, I have a light pink fleece robe that I’ve had for years. Not sure how many, but it’s definitely been years. The robe has seen better days: it’s stained, there’s some paint on it, and no matter how much detergent I use, it still looks dingy.

But it’s still fine. No holes or anything, and the fabric is nice and warm, which is why I feel bad getting rid of it. But looking down I see…yeah, it’s kind of gross.

Have you ever been in this spot? What did you do with the item? Do you have any suggestions for repurposing said item – perhaps cutting it up, making cat beds (although, again, the fabric is admittedly dingy), etc.? I’m reaching the point of not wanting to wear it anymore, but I also don’t want it to go to waste.

Please send any ideas!

Sophie is shipping off!

Well, not really; we would never let that happen! 🙂

Sophie kitty in a box

Off to a great adventure? Or just a nice nap?

Last night I was prepping and wrapping some Christmas goodies. I had just finished taping the bottom of a shipping box and poof! Sophie immediately jumped in and got comfy. I think I may have to get her a shipping box of her very own. After all it’s the perfect Sophie size!
